Obama abandons Arizona, the border will be like no country for old men

Along the Arizona/Mexican border, dozens of heavily armed spotters man look out points on mountain peaks commanding the shimmering, parched landscape below. They usually man these posts for two weeks at a time, taking provisions with them to last the entire 14 days. They are equipped with night vision technology, powerful binoculars and high tech communications able to keep them  in touch with command centers miles away.

But these aren't US military personnel or  law enforcement, they are soldiers of powerful Mexican drug cartels, who own these crossing points where vast amounts of drugs and human traffickers stream  into the United States.   These spotters are on the look out for the US border patrol who is tasked with keeping these invaders out.  Hamstrung by the vast areas of desolate country they have to patrol, as well as having to respect environmentally sensitive areas which the cartels could care less about, our forces are out manned and outgunned.  

Like the Cohen Brothers movie, "No country for old men," the undercurrent of this landscape is harsh, lawless and violent.  It is ruled by brutal men, who do not hesitate to resort to violence in order to protect their investment in drugs and human trafficking. Headless bodies and rape trees tell the tale of how brutal this place can be.

Mule trains of human and drug traffickers on foot, some carrying burlap sacks filled with drugs, walk into the United States under the watchful eyes of the spotters high above them.    Once they reach a staging area, they change clothes so they look more American and discard what they had been wearing.  They also discard the burlap bags as they transfer the drugs to vehicles. These smuggling corridors are littered with abandoned vehicles,plastic bottles, cans, clothing, shoes, food, black plastic bags, and empty burlap sacks.   

You would think, that at the very least,  the EPA would be enthusiastically suing the cartels for despoiling the desert environment...as enthusiastically as they sue and harass our own US corporations and industries.

We are having a war waged against us on our southern border.  This war is filling our country with dangerous illegal drugs and swamping us with undocumented illegal immigrants who are overloading our social services.

A border state trampled and drowned by illegal and criminal invaders, Arizona was dealt a severe blow a few months ago by the Obama administration.  They were told not to call Dept of Homeland Security for help with their immigration enforcement problem because Homeland security wasn't going to answer.

Evidently President Obama was in a snit when the Supreme Court unanimously upheld a controversial provision requiring police to check the immigration status of people they detain and suspect to be in the country illegally.  So President Obama decided to circumvent the intent of the ruling by another executive order and withdrew federal  immigration enforcement help and cooperation from Arizona.

Even Justice Scalia wrote a scathing indictment against the Obama administrations intimidation of Arizona's efforts to protects its borders when he penned: " Arizona contradicts federal law by enforcing applications of the Immigration Act that the President declines to enforce boggles the mind.”

President Obama's decision to suspend laws on immigration and harass the State of Arizona for trying to protect its citizens from a criminal invasion,  is indeed mind boggling.

President Obama has pushed the Constitution, now the Constitution pushes back

The Supreme Court will rule this week whether President Obama's health care bill is constitutional and whether his Justice Department under embattled Eric Holder can stop Arizona from enforcing immigration law.

The administrations prestige is riding on the outcome of these decisions. 

Since the President has touted himself as a constitutional scholar, you would think a positive outcome for him is a foregone conclusion. But most legal experts have said Obamacare is an overreached Frankenstein monster of a law and flawed constitutionally as it forces citizens to purchase private insurance. 

The state of Arizona crafted their own immigration laws after finding the Obama administration was not cooperating with enforcing  federal immigration laws in their state.  Arizona found itself deluged with illegal immigrants and tried to do something about it, they enacted their own laws that mirrored federal laws.  The Obama Justice Department immediately sued them for doing so and now the case is ready to be ruled on.

Just one of these rulings in a session is momentous and there will be grave political consequences for President Obama if he loses.

Obama will take the heat and rightfully so, for devoting his time to ramming an unpopular health care bill down Americas throat, while the economy was melting down.  He will also be criticized for trying to intimidate and bully a state for trying to protect itself from an illegal immigrant invasion by passing a law that basically mirrors federal law. 

But the Obama administration has a third constitutional issue which is about to erupt unless it finds some way to stifle it. 

For the past year and a half the Congressional inquiry into the erupting scandal known as "Fast and Furious," has been hitting a brick wall with Attorney General Holder.  Congress has been looking into the gun running, murders & arming of drug cartels on our border with Mexico.  The Obama administration has only given paltry cooperation with the committee and refused to hand over key evidence which could show who was responsible in the administration and what was at the root cause of the operation.

Due to the Attorney Generals intransigence  and non cooperation with the key watchdog of the people, Congress next week is to hold a full scale vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.  President Obama, apparently in an attempt to protect the incriminating documents from being revealed, has exerted executive privilege to try to circumvent the Congressional investigators right to know.

This week will define if our country is a constitutional republic governed by laws, checks and balances....Or a sort of hybridized monarchy whose constitution can be skirted by a popular President who uses executive orders, regulation and selective enforcement of existing law to achieve his goals.

Obamacare faces the light of day in Supreme Court

Back in early 2010, then Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Congress, they would get to find out what's in the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, after they passed it.  No need to ask any questions now regarding the pesky details and small print in the over 2700 pages of legalese. Just vote yes for it, trust us and you will be pleasantly surprised.

For those legislators saying they couldn't vote if  there were any provisions for abortion or abortion drugs, they were promised drugs/procedures would not be in it.  For those politicians that said they couldn't vote for it if its cost was over a trillion dollars, they were promised it was a bargain at only 987 billion. For those politicians that said they couldn't support this legislation if it increased taxes, they were promised there would be no new taxes, there might be some "fees". Just vote for the bill and all will be taken care of.

Then there were those politicians who said they needed a little something "extra," a little "sweetener," if they were going to put their stamp of approval on Obamacare.  We were treated to a new term, called the Cornhusker Kickback, a concession a Nebraska Senator wrenched out of the deal makers that basically let the rest of America pay for Nebraskans health care. 

Then of course we were treated to the Louisiana Purchase, part deux, which saw Louisiana get an unfair advantage granted to it at the expense of the rest of America in order to insure an aye vote for Obamacare.

The above deals were struck and countless other deals were buried in the 2,700 pages of legislation that were withheld from lawmakers & the public until the last moment before a vote was taken on it.  Nancy Pelosis admonition still ringing in our ears: "You'll get to see what's in Obamacare after you pass Obamacare"

Well it's been over 2 years since the legislation has passed and to this day it is still unclear what is actually buried in those 2,700 pages, it's as if no one actually read all of it in it's entirety.  It does seem to be a living breathing document in some instances, almost a situational handbook to change and interpret as conditions dictate.

But a few things we have found out is that after 2 years, the price for Obamacare is double what we were  told it would be. We also found out there are provisions for abortion procedures/drugs which many were promised would not be in there.  Nancy Pelosi was asked if she thought the legislation was constitutional and she seemed to act surprised.  Had she even not read all of the 2,700 pages?

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who had said he was firmly against the legislation, until he was enticed to vote for it with a sweetener called Cornhusker Kickback, found it ended his political career and he is now spending "more time with his family" 

2010 saw a backlash against legislators who had voted for Obamacare.  Many of these politicians were thrown out of office by angry constituents who didn't trust their legislators for not reading a bill before voting on it. Obamacare became a rallying point for many Americans to focus their ire on. Obamacare helped spawn the American Tea party, part deux.

26 states and private organizations sued the government in order to repeal this legislation on the grounds it was unconstitutional and violated commerce laws as well as the right of Americans not to be forced to pay for a service.

Finally this week the Supreme Court got to hear arguments pro and con for Obamacare.  By listening to the tone the Justices used to grill the Obama administration lawyers, it was obvious they had problems with the premise of the bill.  The solicitor General himself seemed to be having a very difficult time justifying the large intrusive reach of the government into Americans lives.

If the Supreme Court strikes down the law in its entirety, it will be an opportunity to start over in modifying our health care system in a bi partisan manner. Many major reforms were overlooked in the rush to pass ACA/Obamacare. If the court strikes down only parts of the bill, it may bankrupt the health insurance system.  Many are waiting for the verdict...Many political careers hang in the balance.
