Bill Clinton is poor choice for attack ad on Romney in Osama Bin Laden raid

 The new political ad which has Bill Clinton extolling the steely eyed determination of President Obama in ordering the Navy Seals to take out Osama Bin Laden, relies heavily on collective amnesia by the American public.

As facts have shown, Bill Clinton's refusal to acknowledge there was a war against us by Al Quaeda, lead to the eventual attack on American soil by Jihadists  under the command of Osama Bin Laden on 911. 

There was plenty of evidence that outright war had been declared during Bill Clintons Presidency:  The first truck bombing of the World Trade Center.  The bombing of our military barracks in Saudi Arabia, killing 19 and wounding hundreds.  The suicide bombing of our warship USS Cole.  Two US embassies in Africa destroyed by bombs that killed 260 and injured more than 5,000.

But as Byron York wrote in the National Review:  "Bill Clinton was too preoccupied with his own political fortunes to an extent that precluded his giving serious and sustained attention to fighting terrorism" and avoided the decision to kill Osama Bin Laden when he had the opportunity served up to him on a silver platter...more than once.

So it is ironic that Bill Clinton is used as the prop in an ad taking credit for the killing of Osama Bin Laden, when in reality if he had done his job as commander in chief and acted decisively,   Osama Bin Laden would be a minor footnote in American history.  Today  911 would just be a number you called on your phone in an emergency. But this doesn't take away from the fact that it was  a great decision by President Obama to order the hit on Bin Laden and he should receive praise and recognition for it. But praise and recognition should also be equally given to the previous administration who set in motion the groundwork that collected the intelligence revealing where Bin laden was hiding.

It is also ludicrous to claim Mitt Romney would not have had the fortitude to make the decision President Obama did if he had been faced with the same circumstances.

Is there any doubt that Osama Bin Laden was public enemy number one and that Americas Special Forces are the most excellent and well equipped the world has ever seen?  How could a commander in chief NOT order a hit on Osama Bin laden if his whereabouts were pinpointed and he was presented with an executable plan?  No President could have passed this opportunity up.  Ann Coulter summed it up when she said: "Even a President Dennis Kucinich would have ordered the operation".

The killing of Osama Bin Laden was a national effort lead by all of Americas intelligence services and executed by our Special Forces.  The go ahead was given by President Obama.  Lets give credit where credit is due and not suffer from collective amnesia when confronted with a campaign ad.

Administration says war on terror is over? Signs say no

I'm confused.  A few days ago a senior State Department official said "the war on terror is over." “Now that we have killed most of Al Qaeda, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into Al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.”

All of America heaved a great sigh of relief....Finally peace in our time, thanks to the efforts of President Obama.

Yet that short lived sense of peace was shattered when White House spokesman Jay Carney warned there is increased security precautions due to the fact we are close to the one year anniversary of the killing of Osama Bin Laden.  

Security experts are nervous.  Their sources say master bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri has re surfaced after being thought dead in a drone strike that killed terror master mind Anwar al-Awlaki.  Al-Asiri is the same bomb maker who invented the underwear bomb and various parcel bombs. They say there are indications that elements of Al Qaeda are looking for some payback in a spectacular manner.  The word is that the soft target of preference will be American civilians.

To further dispel our short lived sense of security, Iran announced  it was building an army of computer hackers to attack American infrastructure.  Attacks would include knocking out our power grid, disabling our water supplies and causing great havoc to anything that computers have control over, which is just about everything these days.  I call this terrorism.

There seems to be no let up in the Iranians feverish quest to  obtain the material necessary to construct a "peaceful" nuclear program.  Iran is the chief sponsor of terror in the world and there is little doubt in many security experts opinion that a nuclear armed Iran would be a real threat to world stability. 

In the homegrown domestic front according to reports, the Occupy movement announced a new spring offensive to kick off the "occupy" season.  There were reports that on May 1, they would team up with labor movements to shut down the Golden Gate Bridge.  Although the shutdown didn't materialize due to heavy police presence, other occupy movements caused disruptions throughout the country.

This war against us is far from over, no matter what the government may decree.

Trayvon Martin shooting was not an act of racism, but a community trying to defend itself

The sensationalism against George Zimmerman for the shooting of Trayvon Martin, clouds the real reason this tragedy occurred in the first place.

The pundits, the community organizers, the pot stirrers,  are all trying to find a scapegoat and the convenient one to blame is George Zimmerman.  George Zimmerman  is but the symptom of a government failing in its prime function:  To provide protection and security for its citizens. If government does not provide protection for its citizens, then the citizens will provide it for themselves...and what the citizens provide will not be as professional and polished as a trained police force.

The gated community that George Zimmerman is a resident, has been the repeated target of crime.  Zimmerman himself had made repeated phone calls to the local police to report suspicious behavior/crime as had been requested by that department.  Other members of the community had made calls as well.    As far as the cops were concerned, that wasn’t excessive in a neighborhood fighting petty crime.

The neighborhood was on edge, particularly since they had suffered 8 burglaries in the past 14 months. Including the terrifying experience of resident Olivia Bertalan:

21 year old Bertalan was home alone with her infant son one morning last August when a man came to her door, knocked, and rang the bell. She peered out the window and didn't recognize the man. But then called police when another man came to her back door.

She ran upstairs clutching her son and locked herself in a bedroom as the second man entered her home. Terrified, both she and her son cried as the man tried to enter through the locked door of the bedroom. Both men ran when police arrived, but not before stealing a laptop and digital camera.

After the crime she was afraid to come home. She and her husband got a dog, as advised by police. "It was terrible," said Bertalan, who moved from the neighborhood last month because of this and other burglaries. 

"There was definitely a sense of fear in the neighborhood after all of this started happening, and it just kept on happening. It wasn't just a one time thing. It was every week," she said. "Our next-door neighbor actually said if someone came into his yard or house  he would shoot him. Everyone felt afraid and scared."

For years, Twin Lakes has been beset by crime which finally lead them to start a neighborhood-watch organization last September.  The burglary of Olivia Bertalan’s home in August seems to have been a catalyst

There was a large sign post at the entrance of this gated community saying it had neighborhood watch and suspicious people would be reported to 911. This should give someone new in the neighborhood fair warning as to why they may be followed or watched and should invoke a sense of cooperation and understanding from those visiting.

As state and local governments drown in debt, they are cutting back.  The California town of Vallejo went bankrupt due to spiraling costs.  As a result city managers asked for concessions from public employee unions to help get the city back on sound fiscal footing. The unions wouldn't give up benefits or wages, as a result the town had to lay off police and fire forces and is now skeleton staffed with less, but more expensive personnel.

Oakland California, a financial basket case, did not have enough police officers last fall to respond to a violent beating which resulted in a death of one of its citizens in their own front yard.  Police forces were busy patrolling the Occupy Oakland gathering.

These stories will be repeated around the country as budgets get tightened.  Critical numbers of law enforcement will be reduced and response times to crimes will be lengthened.  Some jurisdictions will no longer respond to certain types of crime because they just can't afford to hire enough police to respond. Revenue enhancement policing will be increased as municipalities struggle to bring in more money to their coffers.  Speed traps are on the increase and traffic violations are watched for with an eagle eye as they bring in fines. 

Communities are having to come to grips with the costs involved of protecting their citizens.  Some communities are trying to cut costs by having non police dept technicians collect evidence at crime scenes. There is also talk of privatizing some segments of police work, such as traffic enforcement and other non violent crime areas.

Some communities are getting rid of their local departments of police and fire altogether, finding them too expensive to maintain, they are sub contracting with regional sheriff and fire depts to serve their needs. Many communities are now using private fire fighting services and considering using private security companies to provide basic protections.

All of this doesn't bode well to the citizen that think instant help will be there with a 911 call.  In many cases when danger is seconds away, the police are just minutes away and the difference between you living to be able to defend yourself in court, or dying and being carried away in a casket....is your right to bear fire arms.

There will be calls for tighter gun controls because of the Trayvon Martin shooting, but more restrictions only give the criminals a bigger advantage. Look at the cities with the tightest gun controls, it doesn't put a dent in the criminals owning guns.  As a result citizens feel the need to enhance their security with more neighborhood watches and by purchasing fire arms for their personal protection.

Government's "war on coal" is a war of regulations against Americas way of life

The new EPA rulings will finally bring to fruition President Obama's promise his policies will necessarily bankrupt the coal industry.

Four years ago, then-candidate Barack Obama explained his anti-coal energy policy in an editorial board meeting with the San Francisco Chronicle: "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad."  "So if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can - it's just that it will bankrupt them."

But the 2010 elections saw a landslide defeat of those politicians in the house and senate who supported skyrocketing our utility rates through cap and trade and put an end to President Obama's aspirations in a new energy tax.

But that didn't put an end of efforts to kill the coal industry and the day after the landslide defeats of the 2010 elections, President Obama said  "Cap-and-trade was just one way of skinning the cat; it was not the only way. It was a means, not an end. I'm going to be looking for other means to address this problem."

After that the EPA began to enact regulation by bureaucratic fiat rather than the legislative process.

Even staunch supporters in the labor unions are beginning to wake up to the fact that they are being regulated out of a job if the Obama administration has its way.  The Keystone Pipeline rejection already has hit the labor unions hard by halting the creation of 20K plus jobs in the construction industry.

But the heart and soul of Americas labor movement is in the roots of the coal industry and this is where the new EPA regulations will hit the hardest.   Cecil Roberts, President of the powerful United Mine Workers of America said recently in a radio interview:

“The Navy SEALs shot Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan and Lisa Jackson shot us in Washington.”

Roberts blasted Jackson, the EPA administrator, over proposed regulations, which would limit greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants. Opponents of the regulations, including Roberts, say the new rules would be the death knell of the coal industry.

Roberts wrote in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette::

"We told EPA that as many as 54,000 direct jobs were at risk in the utility, mining and rail transport sectors, in addition to 200,000 jobs in related industries and communities impacted by plant closures.


We also made it clear that we supported the rule's basic objective of reducing mercury and other harmful emissions. Our principal concerns were the inadequate time provided for compliance and the feasibility of meeting some of the proposed emission limits with different types of coal.


But the EPA ignored our concerns. Instead, the agency created a rule that not only will cause far more negative effects on the utility and coal industries than it is willing to admit; the rule will also make it next to impossible for new coal-fired power plants to be built based on current technologies. The consequences for workers and communities would be devastating."

Of course these regulations are done to stave off "Global Warming-morphed into Climate Change", which is not at all a settled science and is hotly disputed in scientific circles. Wouldn't it be wise to have settled scientific confirmation and consensus on a subject before you kill off an industry your economy depends on? Shouldn't the closure of an industry in a representational democracy like the United States be done through legislative process, rather than behind the scenes, clever use of regulation?

Someday, in the not too distant future at this rate,  Americans will flick on their light switch and nothing will happen.  The mercury laden corkscrew light bulb made in China, will not have any power to turn it on because the last coal fired power plant will have been shut down. Government master planners forgot to note that at night, when there is no sun or wind, the wind and solar power generators cannot produce electricity.

Dick Cheney unchained - calls Barack Obama unmitigated disaster

Fresh off life saving surgery which gave him a new heart, former Vice President Dick Cheney wasted no time shedding the hospital gown for a sports coat,  in order to lambaste current occupant of the White House, Barack Obama.

Walking onstage unaided, appearing strong and healthy,  Dick Cheney was able to give a talk for over an hour to a gathering of the Wyoming State Republican Convention in Cheyenne Wyoming. 

He sat on a chair as he chatted with his Daughter Liz Cheney talking about various subjects from his health to concerns for the country under the leadership of President Obama.

He said "I won't be running any foot races yet, but it won't be long" to the crowd of approximately 300, who gave him a long standing ovation.  He added "he owed a huge debt to the unknown donor of his new heart and to medical technology".

Vice President Cheney didn't wade into the wonders of Americas present health care system that makes miraculous cures to once fatal illnesses commonplace and how he thinks Obamacare will change all of that. That will be dealt with in upcoming speeches as he gets his strength back. But he did wade into the Presidents handling of our country and in his typical fashion, didn't mince words:

"He has been an unmitigated disaster to the country," referring to President Obama. "I can't think of a time when I felt it was more important for us to defeat an incumbent President today with respect to Barack Obama.."  "I think to be in a position where he gets four more years in the White House to continue the policies he has, both with respect to the economy, and tax policy, and defense and some other areas would be a huge, huge disappointment."

Vice President Cheney also waded into GOP politics and called for a uniting behind presumptive nominee Mitt Romney saying: "He (Romney) is going to do a 'whale of a job."  "It has never been more important than now to defeat a sitting president and the Republican Party should unite behind Romney."

It wasn't long ago Dick Cheney was in a medically induced coma for over a month as Doctors worked on his frail heart, while attaching him to a machine that would forever be a part of  his life if he was to survive.  During an interview he was asked if he had any memories of that time while he hovering near death and he responded: "I never knew I was in a coma, I thought I was at an Italian Villa the whole time enjoying life."

Many people who go through the health challenges and near death experiences Dick Cheney has, mellow to turn to other pursuits and Mr. Cheney still loves to fly fish the great trout streams near his home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.   But as Mr. Cheney recovers from this latest health challenge, I see him fired up more than ever to see the country he loves set in a good strong direction. Dick Cheney is just starting to roll up his sleeves and get back in the battle to retake our country.

Where Irish American Eric O'Keefe treads, incumbent politicians tremble

Eric O'Keefe

Eric O'Keefe has the reputation for being a political activist who isn't afraid to take on entrenched political interests. He has a history of involvement in organizations which seek to empower the regular American citizen and he doesn't shy away from a fight.  When you look at his career you see he mirrors some of the best ideals of the fighting Irish spirit,  fighting for the underdog.  In Mr. O'Keefe's case the underdog he fights for is the under represented American citizen.

He is the founder and a principal in such organizations as the Samuel Adams Club, Alliance for Self-Governance, Health Care Compact Alliance.  He also sits on the board of directors of the Institute for Humane Studies, the Center for Competitive Politics, the Citizens In Charge Foundation and the Club for Growth Wisconsin.  All of these groups seek to help change the landscape of American politics to represent the citizens instead of special interests.

What got my attention was a new Political Action Committee (PAC) on the scene, which is non partisan in nature and is trying to upset the apple cart in Washington DC politics.  They go by the name of Campaign for Primary Accountability (CPA).  Their aim is to target entrenched members of congress, who they feel do not represent the people anymore, but owe their existence to special interests.

In these days of divisive and partisan politics, with new PACS springing up every day to promote that partisanship, it was extraordinary to see an organization like this, neither Democrat or Republican, but on the side of regular American citizens. I called them up and had a chat with their spokesman, Curtis Ellis.

Curtis was able to fill me in on the nuts and bolts of the organization and how it's founders, have diverse political views.  Curtis said  "Even though their political views are different, they share  the same view that common folks don't have a voice anymore in Washington DC and that's dangerous for a democracy".

Leo Linbeck, one of the founders had an idea that the best way to effect change in Washington was to go after entrenched politicians in their primaries, where they don't usually get a challenge.  Due to the gerrymandering of their districts, many times these Congressmen run unopposed in their general elections.

Leo contacted Eric O'Keefe with the idea of helping challengers to incumbents in the primaries, regardless of party and Eric helped make the idea into a reality.  With the help of two other founders, Joe Ricketts and Tim Dunn, they started and funded their idea.  So far they have met success by defeating two incumbents and making another one retire.

I noted when incumbents find they are being targeted by their PAC, they proclaim outside interests are trying to effect their election.  Curtis laughed and said "These politicians are funded by outside big money interests", when we enter a campaign we are the equalizers, not the outsiders".  "We take some of the advantages away from an entrenched incumbent who has large campaign war chests, unlimited free mailing through franking privileges and other advantages they have titled in their favor".

Curtis noted that "the situation is so tilted in incumbents favor, that over the past few elections more incumbents died in office than were replaced in primaries, we aim to change that imbalance."

Although the original funding for the organization came mostly from the four founders, Curtis said:  "The next financial report will show a huge influx of small donors of all political persuasions as word of our organizations work gets out to the American public."

Regardless of political party affiliation, it is obvious there is need for major change in the way things get done in Washington DC.  Other movements have sprung up in frustration with the status quo in our capital, beginning with the Tea Party and more recently the Occupy Wall Street Movement.  Curtis said "Campaign for Primary Accountability identifies with much of what the Tea Party has been trying to do and with some of the goals of OWS".  "We feel we are the working families, we are the regular Americans who are not being heard anymore in Washington"....."We are the 99%."

Stay tuned as our political season heats up and regular America clamors to have it's voice heard, there is now a savvy, experienced and powerful organization who is trying to help.  Eric O'Keefe plays a key role in the day to day operation and planning of this organization. With his great political experience, he is getting the American public involved in true activism at the grass roots level in order to make real change....And incumbent politicians better start listening

Did the Government meddling turn Chevy Volts into Chariots of Fire?

Last month it was announced that General Motors was going to suspend production of their all electric car known as the Chevy Volt, due to disappointing sales.

Sales for this car have been slow in spite of massive government subsidies and getting the spotlight of every green organization you can think of.  It seems no amount of taxpayer money is going to entice a buyer, so the cars sit in showrooms and inventories, unsold.

The Volt was the recipient of such "green awards" as: 2009 Green Car Vision Award-2011 Green Car of the Year-2011 North American Car of the Year-2011 World Green Car-2012 European Green Car of the Year.  All very prestigious honors to have for a new model of car.

But getting "green" awards, doesn't insure a company will "get the green" when it comes to competing in the free marketplace.  Below the hoopla, awards and marketing glitz, there has to be a compelling reason for the public to purchase a small car with a price tag of  46,000.  Even with a 7,500  federal tax credit to soften the sticker shock, the price is a big problem.  Especially when you can buy a similarly sized gas powered Chevy Cruze,  rated at 36 MPG highway and has an average selling price of $19,656. 

When the Government stepped in and bailed out General Motors in 2009, it allowed, in many peoples opinion, undue influence in the design of this car by an administration without any business or car manufacturing experience.  But what the administration lacked in practical experience, it more than made up for with a green agenda.  So instead of designing a car that could be competitive in a free market with appeal to millions of potential buyers, it produced the Volt.

To add to the bad public perception this car has had, there are reports of battery fires in collision tests and fires starting during  battery charge, hence the nick name "chariots of fire"

Actual users of the car have reported as little as 25 miles on a full 12 hour charge before it switched over to the gas drive.  Really nothing to brag about when you pay that much for a car. Someone said perhaps the reason to buy a Volt is to do something good for the planet rather than buy a good product.

But even if your intentions are truly green and your desire is to do something good for the planet by purchasing these electric cars, remember most of our electricity is produced by coal fired/fossil fueled power plants.  Any savings in "carbon credits" that the car buyer may think he is accomplishing, is being burned up by coal to produce the electricity which charges these cars.

To many people in the private sector this is a prime example of why government should stay out of determining winners and losers in the energy sector as well as manufacturing sector.  The government sunk 50 billion into GM to bail it out and it still hasn't paid us back, in spite of what is reported in the media. The Treasury Department says nearly 70 executives at American International Group Inc., Ally Financial Inc. and General Motors Co. had their annual compensation reduced by 10 percent. All three companies have yet to repay what they received from the $700 billion bailout and therefore are subject to pay cuts.

In the meantime, around the world, countries are reversing their decisions on solar energy and backing out. Germany earlier this year announced they were cutting back on solar subsidies.  China will accelerate the use of new-energy sources such as nuclear energy and put an end to blind expansion in industries such as solar energy and wind power in 2012, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says in a government report published on March 5.

China's national policy means they will direct their resources into developing nuclear and hydro electric power.  Certainly doesn't mean they won't keep producing those solar panels to make profits at the expense of governments that force their countries economies down the path of solar.

Chariots of fire are ancient descriptions first appearing as paintings on cave walls. Then the name was  borrowed for a 1981 movie.  Now a battery powered car bears the honor.

School backs down and puts God back in "God Bless the USA"

Massachusetts parents were outraged when they learned school officials changed lyrics to "We love the USA" instead of "God Bless the USA" during the chorus of the popular Lee Greenwood song. The song was to be performed at a concert at the Stall Brook Elementary school in Boston.

According to MY Fox News in Boston: Following outrage from parents; a changed version of "God Bless the USA" has been pulled from an upcoming school assembly concert.... In fact the whole song will now not be included in the concert. In a statement, school officials said "they hope to maintain the focus on the original objective of sharing students' knowledge of the U.S. States, and because of logistics, will not include any songs."

But school official had not counted on the massive backlash from the parents and the American public. Late this afternoon they reversed themselves a 3rd time, issued an apology and said the song would be reinstated into the concert in its correct form, with God included.

But at at the same time in other areas of the country the word "Easter" is removed from mention when it comes to the two week school break and is now known as "Spring Break".

Of course we have all heard of the Seattle public school, that no longer believes it is proper to call Easter Eggs, Easter Eggs...They are now officially called "Spring Spheres".

Words are powerful and when the the narrative gets seized to use "new labels" in renaming traditional values, it becomes a war for control of the moral compass guiding our country.  Secular progressives have gone far to come up with new pretzel-like word and phrases to separate our country from its foundation.

America has always been a Judeo Christian country, we are built upon those values, we even have "in God we trust" on our currency.  Of course even this is inflammatory to some who are fighting furiously to get this removed...Just like the fight to take "Christ" out of Christmas, just refer to it as Xmas from now on.

The push is on to rename Columbus Day to "Indigenous Peoples Day", or "Dia de la Raza".

How far are we willing to go to extinguish every little bit of connection we have with our heritage in order to appease other cultures?

Would President Mitt Romney give Russia space?

The hot mic incident that caught President Obama asking Russian President Medvedev for space, has many in the American space industry saying the same thing. They want space back from the Russians and feel President Obama has ceded that frontier to them.  The Russians brag, saying they own space and can arbitrarily charge us whatever they want to bring our Astronauts to the Space Station.  The Russians are correct, America has no manned space flight program and it seems, there is not one on the horizon under the Obama administration..

60 Minutes News hour did a special  report on Florida's "space coast" where there have been massive layoffs in the NASA space industry. The name of the piece was called "Hard landing",  it focused on Brevard County, the heart of space exploration that  has been devastated by cutbacks to manned space flight.  Highly skilled technicians, specializing in space flight are no longer employed and wonder what the future holds for them under the Obama administration.

Ironically in 2008, Brevard County was visited by then candidate Obama who criticized President Bush for cutbacks in the space program. He promised them that if he were elected president he would protect the space industry. In a speech to those space workers he promised:

"We're going to work with Bill Nelson to add at least one flight after 2010 by continuing to support NASA funding, by speeding the development of the shuttle's successor, by making sure that all those who work in the space industry in Florida do not lose their jobs when the shuttle is retired because we cant afford to lose their expertise. But more broadly, we need a real vision for the next stage of space exploration"

"Take a look around today, and you'll see the results didn't match Obama's rhetoric."

Even if it is a temporary grounding of the manned flight program,, that is a few years too many. . A wise visionary leader would find the money and rally the people around the idea of pushing the space envelope.

I was on Fox News commenting on the ramifications of letting manned space flight come to an end as the shuttle landed. Somehow I don't think a competent visionary leader would let our space program be relegated to back seat status.  As I have discovered about Governor Romney over the years, he sees a problem and finds a way to solve it.  I am sure if he were President, America would be again at the leading edge of space exploration,  he knows space is Americas future.

A President Romney would not ask for space from the Russians...He would take it by outworking and outsmarting them
