President Obama can reform immigration and stimulate the economy -- build a border fence

The Senate’s so called “gang of eight” had reached a bi partisan agreement on reforming our immigration system.  But the key to this bi partisan support was to seal our borders first, before we implement any steps to legality for the millions of illegals among us. But President Obama says our borders are already secure and there is no need to address border security first.

But the senators thought the border security proviso was logical, since what country has no control of it’s borders? What good will it do to reform our immigration system if thousands can cross our borders daily with impunity…We don’t even know who these people are.

President Obama says that our borders are more secure now than ever. Is that true?

US citizens that live along our southern border vehemently reject that notion. They point out the garbage strewn illegal crossing points, the damage done to private property, the violence and the worn trails that point to high traffic. 

These are regular high traffic corridors used by drug and human traffickers routinely crossing our southern border.  They funnel in huge quantities of drugs and the human mules used to carry these drugs across the borders. These desolate border crossing areas encompass thousands of square miles and federal border personnel are stretched thin, unable to staunch the flow of humans and drugs flowing into our country.

President Obama, is technically correct in one respect, the inflow of illegals is down right now because the US economy is in the tank, not because of increased border enforcement.  

 Even the Presidents own border patrol agents have brought suit against him for what they claim are policies that prevent them from protecting our borders. They claim his executive orders are a violation of the constitution. See Godfather Politics border patrol suing Obama

But if an immigration amnesty deal is inked before the borders are secured, look for a massive influx of illegals taking advantage of any pathway to US citizenship.

If President Obama is serious about reforming our immigration laws and making our country more secure as a result, he should do what is best for our country and approve the building of a fence along our southern border......and make sure there are enough personnel to make it secure.

Instead of rebuilding foreign countries with billions of our tax dollars, we should take those dollars and use them to protect our borders.  A border fence would be a stimulus for our economy, create thousands of jobs in the construction industry, and help staunch the flow of drugs.

Lets don’t put the cart before the horse; secure our borers first before there is any talk of reforming immigration, or pathways to legality.  Without securing our borders first, the rest of immigration reform is a farce.

School choice can save our children and our cities

 The hopes and needs of children are clearly evident when charter, or pilot schools become available in school districts. 

 Lines, sometimes blocks long, of applicants eager to give their children a better shot at an education can be seen.  Unfortunately, there are a limited amount of openings compared to the overwhelming demand by parents desperate to get their children a better education. These scenes, repeated around the country, are heartbreaking, but at the same time gives a sense of hope, that something is being attempted to shake up the government education system

This week is National School Choice Week.  It is being celebrated throughout our country with over 3,500 events honoring the change that can transform our education system into one of the finest in the world…But it will take courage to change the status quo.

In honor of School Choice Week, I talked to Jeff Reed, communications director for the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice.  The Friedman Foundation has been spearheading school choice efforts throughout the country, working with new thinking Governors such as Louisiana’s Bobby Jindall and Wisconsins Scott Walker, in turning around a failing government education system.

Jeff shared many positive developments with me, as school choice starts to take hold around the country.  See this map of where school choice is being implemented.

Parents love the freedom, when offered, to take a voucher to a private, or alternative school for the chance of a better education for their children.

Many Governors and Mayors love the idea of vouchers not only for the freedom of choice they offer, they love it because it can save them huge amounts of money. Sometimes the cost of a voucher for a student to enroll in a private school is ½ the cost of the public school.  That can add up to substantial cost savings to states and cities struggling to keep their heads above water.

Additionally, when school choice is introduced into a state or district, through vouchers, tax credits, savings accounts, etc…It brings competition, which is lacking in the public school system.

But John Norquist, Democratic mayor of Milwaukee from 1988 to 2004, had a unique perspective on school choice and how it can restore our cities.

Norquist wrote: “If a young couple moves to, say, St. Louis and chooses a home in one of the city's revitalizing neighborhoods, everything goes well until their first child approaches school age. They might decide to pay for private education at one of the few such schools in the city. Or they might take a chance on getting into one of the city's elite magnet schools. But what looks like the surest way to enroll their child in a good school is to move to a suburb.”

He goes on with: “Although the couple enjoys urban life in St. Louis, they leave for better school opportunities. This process occurs all across the country; many parents with resources move away from cities and suburbs where poor people live.”

The lack of quality education choice leads to the further decay of our big cities and urban areas.  Mr. Norquist believes “many more, including middle-class parents, would live in economically and racially diverse cities once school choice was universally available.”

When you hear a leader of the top public education union and fiercest foe of education choice say: “Union dues, not education, are our top priority,”…..it is plain to see we have lost our way as a country and have failed our children.

Lets give all of our parents and children a choice when it comes to education.

Father Malachi Martin: Vatican envoy and exorcist

Recently Lionsgate Home Entertainment sent a copy of a newly released DVD called “The Possession." 

I popped it into the machine and for the next hour and a half watched a story based loosely on a real event; A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that it is actually a Dybbuk Box.  According to Jewish folklore the box was used to house ancient demons. Soon she begins exhibiting Linda Blair’s "Exorcist" symptoms.

I yelled at the TV screen several times, trying to warn the young woman NOT to open the box…But she didn’t hear me and predictably, the demon was released to set up shop in her body.

Of course the story has a Yiddish twist. Instead of the heroic Priest entering armed with a crucifix, holy water and a holy book.....this one features a Rabbi with a Torah and the Star of David.

The story had a happy ending for the girl and her family…. however the Rabbi, who gave his all, met a horrible fate and the demon lived on to inhabit another hapless victim.

But the premise of the movie reminded me of a Priest who I used to communicate with years ago.

The first time I heard him was when I would awake at 0 dark thirty a few times a week to drive to my job in the city.  On the way, I would turn on the radio for company.  One morning the first voice to greet me was the melodious accent of an Irishman.  Of course, I tuned in to hear what he was speaking about.

That voice was Father Malchi Martin, a Kerry Ireland native, learned scholar, author and traveling envoy for the Vatican.  At the time, he was a guest of the largest syndicated radio show in the world…so he was speaking to millions of listeners.

The drive took me an hour as I listened to how how he described his brushes with evil.  How every person has crossroads, how the seductive power of evil draws you down a path, even a seemingly insignificant one and puts you at risk.

As he went on, he described how he sometimes went to the extreme and ended up performing exorcisms on people who had become possessed.

 Father Martin was a firm believer in the power of evil and  battled it throughout his career as a Catholic Priest.

What he was talking about reminded me of Dr. Scott Peck, an author who was selling tons of books at the time. .A brilliant psychiatrist and author, his books combined medical science along with his personal experiences. I had just read his “Road Less Travelled” and now had picked up his other book “People of the Lie” See video

 People of the Lie, was Pecks scientific study of evil.  He took documented cases of patients treated over his career and painstakingly investigated the genesis of evil.  It was chilling to read of the cruelty that leaped out of that book. In fact he prefaced “People of the Lie” with the warning that “it was a dangerous book.”

That day I wrote Fr. Martin a message. I let him know I had heard his interview on the radio and was appreciative of his points.  I also informed him there was a prominent figure in the scientific/media world who would be a great person for him to contact and compare notes with, Dr. Scott Peck.

Later that night Fr. Martin sent his blessings via email.  He thanked me for my input and suggestion, but that he was already very aware of Scott Peck and knew him personally.

As I read the rest of Peck’s “People of the Lie,”  I reached chapter 5,  Peck wrote of his experiences with exorcism and how he had worked with Fr.Martin in two of them.  He described the exorcisms in detail from a scientific, case study point of view.

From time to time after that, I kept in touch with Fr. Martin. I always appreciated his intelligence and controversial points of view on the Church, as well as society in general.

Fr. Malachi Martin was an accomplished best selling author who possessed not only superb writing skills but also displayed tremendously keen insights into the Vatican, its operations and problems.

His excellent contacts in Rome gave him first hand knowledge. However, he made enemies by his criticisms of those in positions of power and prominence, especially when he came out with his novel “Windswept House." A Vatican novel.

Fr. Martin was asked if he feared for his life since writing "Windswept House". He just said that he was, but was too old to change his ways.

But Father Martin soon met his death, many think it was under very suspicious circumstances. He was found unconscious and bleeding in his home with wood fragments imbedded in his skull.  Some say he regained consciousness just briefly enough to declare that it was a murder attempt, but that he did not get a chance to see who did it. Fr. Martin fell into a coma and died on July 27, 1999. He was 78 at the time of his death.

A documentary titled ‘Malachi Martin: The Pope’s Exorcist’ is in Pre-Production at Irish Causeway Pictures.  Belfast producers Chris Patterson and Paddy McCarney plan on featuring the life and times of one of religions most famous figures.

An idea whose time has come? Universal background checks for gun purchasers should be standard for politicians.

Looking at the state of affairs in Washington, perhaps it is time to apply the same proposed standards for gun owners and apply them to prospective and sitting politicians.  Perhaps go even further, by requiring our leaders to pass an FBI background check.

Governor Huckabee mentioned he was subjected to a security background check while Governor of Arkansas, in order to be allowed access to National Homeland Security information.

At the time, he was a sitting Governor, a politician… he had no problem complying with it.  In fact he suggested all politicians be subjected to security background checks.

What’s wrong with verifying who our leaders are?  Should they at least be able to pass the same background tests that applicants for an FBI job have to pass?

After all, their decisions have the power to affect our national security; shouldn’t we make sure they at least meet the same standards as the rest of us if we want a government job in the security sector?  Or even a regular government job for that matter.

It would be good to know ahead of time, if the person running for senator has criminal ties? Graft or corruption allegations?  A drug problem. Is there anything in the background that could subject him/her to blackmail?

How about running all of his/her credentials and getting those degrees verified?  This is nothing less than what many prospective employees are put through for even a county job.

There is a growing chorus for medical/psychiatric standards for gun owners.  From listening to some of the bizarre rants coming from leaders in Washington DC, I think some sitting members would not be able to pass the psychological standards.

Many say these screens are already set up by political opposition research to try to dig up dirt on opponents.  But opposition research cannot be as thorough as an FBI background check. 

Ask Bill and Hillary Clinton what one of the first things they did when they entered the White house in their first term? They got the confidential FBI files on all of their political opponents. What did they do with that information for the next 8 years?...And to this day for that matter?

Perhaps it is time for President Obama to appoint Joe Biden to head up another “blue ribbon” committee to see how this can best be facilitated…As soon as Joe passes his background check.

Benghazi-Newtown; what difference does it make Hillary?

In the Newtown Connecticut School shooting, when 911 was called, help came.  

When Americans called 911 while under attack in Benghazi, no one came to help.

One stays in the headlines of the media, the other one is quickly forgotten.

After watching the Benghazi dog and pony show hearings yesterday in Washington, it is apparent the citizens of the United States will never get the truth out of this administration.  The absence of details as to exactly what happened before, during and after the Benghazi murders, is astonishing. Such as: Orders were given to not help Americans under attack in Benghazi.  Who gave that order? Why?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had 4 months to skirt answering any questions on Benghazi:, reasons given: A wine tasting tour in Australia, a bout with the flu, exhaustion, a concussion, a blood clot and many think she would have come down with the “vapors,” had not her 25 million campaign debt been retired earlier this week.

She appeared at the hearings yesterday ready to not really answer any of the glaring questions, but only to obfuscate and run out the clock. Her quip of:  "What difference does it really make" as to why Americans died in Benghazi showed a callous disregard for the disaster that happened under her watch.

Conveniently each politician had only a few minutes to ask a question of Hillary and get an answer.  Most of the questioners couldn’t resist their time in the spotlight to get long winded and as a result, didn’t have time to follow up when Hillary gave a non answer.

Was this by design or just incompetence?

The main stream media has been a willing accomplice to this administrations attempt to bury Benghazi and doesn’t have the appetite to upset the apple cart of lies and deceptions.

Only when there was a hint of sex scandal involving CIA chief Petraeus and his paramour, did Benghazi temporarily get elevated to front page news by the “bread and circuses” media.

But the media has been front and center in the war on “assault” rifles.

The Newtown shooting has captured the medias attention and fits hand in glove with the pre planned assault on the 2^nd amendment.

Every detail that fits into the narrative the media is trying to foist on the public, is made known and kept on the front page……Every truth and detail of the Newtown shooting that does not fit the agenda is buried.

Such as where is the drug screen test of the shooters blood?  It seems many of these mass shooters had a cocktail of anti depressant/psych meds in their bloodstreams at the time of their crimes.  Coincidence?

What other warning signs about the crazed lone gunmen are being overlooked in the rush to assault law abiding citizens gun rights?  What violent video games did he obsess on? Did mental health professionals know about his potential violent blow up?

As a result of the Benghazi hearings yesterday, we know we are not being told the truth.  We also know we are not being told the whole truth about the Newtown Shooting.  Is there any journalistic curiosity left in the main stream media?

That’s what the difference is Hillary, there is a double standard in the media when it comes to what truth they want America to hear.

President Obama and the First Lady

The inauguration of a president to a new four year term, is celebration for all Americans to be proud of.

Our political system has shown we can have a peaceful and orderly transfer of power after popular elections; no need for armed overthrows of leaders.

Inauguration day is when the leaders and their families come together as Americans, despite their political differences. It’s a moment in time when our leaders can mark a new spirit of cooperation for the country and set the tone for the rest of the citizens. 

After all we are all crew-members on this ship of state called America.

So much of the inauguration festivities are symbolic, that’s why it has always been a day to observe social mores and show basic respect.

When cameras caught Michelle Obama’s, look of contempt and disdain towards the speaker of the House John Boehner during a luncheon, it came as a shock for many.

This is not what this day is about and it brought out an ugly truth on a day that was supposed to be reserved for celebration and unity as a country.

Boehner, sitting next to President Obama and Michelle, was trying to make polite conversation with them, but as the video showed, Michelle showed as much courtesy to Boehner as she would have to a lowly cockroach. She didn’t stop eating, to acknowledge the Speaker and couldn’t have flashed a worse multi faceted scowl his way without missing a bite.

From the video, Boehner acted like a gentleman and continued on with the conversation, not allowing himself to be dragged into the pettiness.

What would the reaction be if it was a Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi being shown such disrespect at a George Bush inauguration?

The First Lady and the president had an opportunity to mend fences and set a tone for the country yesterday.  They had an opportunity to mend the rift the country finds itself split down the middle on…..But if Michelle is any indicator of what lies in the heart of the White house, there will be little attempt to mend fences or find common ground.

Gun free zones should be held liable for the deaths they cause

Most of the mass shootings lately have happened in self proclaimed gun free zones. They have been a drawing card for deranged killers who want to make sure they can fire into defenseless people without the worry of having fire returned.

Time and again these gun free zones have been targeted and time and again, people are bewildered why it happens. But the answer is simple; these advertised gun free zones invite attack.

Politicians simplistic solution is to put tighter restrictions on law abiding citizens, thinking if they make it harder to obtain a certain type of firearm, it will make the senseless shootings stop. It won’t

But perhaps it’s time to assign responsibility to those who think they can proclaim an area a gun free zone with a sign or a proclamation, but don’t provide protection for the people that frequent those locations.

Airports and commercial aircraft are “gun free zones.” You can be pretty much assured that these gun free zones offer you protection by strict security screening of those they allow in and plenty of armed security on the premises to quell any violence that may occur.

Government buildings in Washington DC are “gun free zones.” There is armed security everywhere, seen and unseen, to protect the precious ruling class.

In the self proclaimed, utopian, “gun free” zones set up all over America, law abiding citizens are not allowed to carry firearms.  For that trade off, shouldn’t patrons, students, and employees expect tight security?  If these entities are going to require law abiding citizens to be helpless, whether it is a movie theater, shopping mall, school or office building, don’t they owe their clientele the utmost security that can be provided?

The stark reality of this truth came through loud and clear when James O’Keefe, of undercover video fame, targeted journalists, many of whom were involved in the public outing of gun owners in their community.  See O’Keefe’s hilarious video

O’Keefe’s group, “Project Veritas” poses as “Citizens Against Senseless Violence,” and visits the homes of journalists working for Westchester Journal News, MSNBC, and the Star-Ledger. They also visit the home of Eric Holder. Hypocritically, none will take the signs that say “THIS HOME IS PROUDLY GUN FREE.”

Even the rabid anti gun members of the left leaning media know that proclaiming you are a gun free zone, announces to the world you are easy pickings.  Perhaps it’s time for the litigation industry to pick up on this fact when they seek damages for the death and injury gun free zones have triggered.

The assault by the left on gun rights, is an assault on women

As a demographic, American women are purchasing firearms at the greatest rate in our nation’s history.

But at the peak, the President and the left, are making a concerted effort to demonize gun ownership and put strict gun controls on law abiding American citizens, which includes women.

One left wing news publication in New York even went so far as to publish the names and addresses of legal gun owners in areas of New York, as if to shame them. See NY Journal News exposes gun owners to danger

Perhaps they didn’t realize when they published these names; they exposed women who were gun owners trying to keep their identities and residences secret in order to evade stalkers. This publication also outed the names and addresses of women judges and police officers, who were legal gun owners.

The two biggest gun control cities in the US; Chicago and New York City, are already shooting galleries, in spite of their tough gun laws.  Law abiding citizens find it difficult to possess a legal firearm, yet the criminals and gangsters are heavily armed….They don’t register their guns and they have high capacity ammunition magazines, in spite of them being illegal.

Just last week, a Georgia woman alone at home with her two young children was terrified to see a man breaking into her house using a crowbar.  She gathered up her children and ran upstairs hiding in a crawl space as the man searched the house looking for them. See CBS News story

The intruder finally opened the door to the hiding space. But instead of finding helpless victims, he was greeted with 6 shots from a pistol.  She shot the criminal 5 times in the face and neck, when the hammer came down on an empty cylinder.

The gun was empty, but the criminal didn’t know it. She told him she would keep shooting if he didn’t stop. Although severely wounded he was able to get out of the house and climb into his car and drive away, thinking the woman would shoot again.

If he knew she had no more bullets in her gun would he have harmed her and her children?  Suppose there were 2 or more intruders? She would not have had enough ammunition to defend herself and her children.

Of course the police arrived later to take reports…But they weren’t there when they were needed.

Many women live alone and want the security of owning a firearm and know how to safely use it. If they want to own a semi automatic rifle with a high capacity magazine, as long as they are law abiding citizens, let them. President Obama, Mayor Bloomberg, Governor’s Cuomo, or Emmanuel, can’t guarantee law abiding citizens a crime free environment, in spite of all of their laws. These politicians should deal with the criminal and mental health problem that that they refuse to address, before they infringe on the 2^nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens.  

In spite of the pathetic attempt to wave a magic wand and declare a location a “gun free zone” and make it all better, this has proven to have the opposite effect, as the recent mass shootings have all occurred in “gun free zones.”

Just like many utopian run cities and locations used to proudly boast they were nuclear free zones, they of course would get incinerated just as crisply as their neighboring cities if a nuke went off near them.

The 2^nd Amendment guarantees American citizens, including women, the right to bear arms and it shall not be infringed upon.

As depth of betrayal sinks in, followers of Al Gore feel confused and misled

In the history of mankind there are countless instances of cult figures who have lead their followers to ruin and disillusionment.  Names like Jim Jones, David Koresh, The Pied Piper,  Bernie Madoff, Adolph Hitler, Charles Manson, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and a whole host of TV evangelists have done their damage.  

It was easy for those outside and not sucked in by these hucksters to see the message they peddled defied logic, science and the laws of economics:  Alchemy, master race, buy your way into heaven, getting something for nothing, all have that common thread.

But the lard used to hold it all together is usually tinged with a sort of religious fervor, transferred to that central figure, giving them cult like central power. It is a common thread that overcomes the doubt to accept a belief, no matter how self destructive, or outrageous it is. 

In a sort of herd mentality, anyone that dares to question their core beliefs is immediately attacked and marginalized; labeled a “denier,” or a scientific/economic “blasphemer.”

But these cults have not only lead their followers to death, destruction, financial and spiritual ruin; many of them have brought those repercussions to the rest of society.

Former vice president, Al Gore, is a prime example of a modern day cult figure to his followers.  His warning against man caused global warming, causing ice caps to melt, catastrophic storms, to wipe us out and cause mass extinctions, is all based on the burning of fossil fuels to power our civilization.

Followers/True Believes of Mr. Gore, burn with religious fervor as they recite historic temperature variations & green house gas concentrations, proving the earth is headed towards certain destruction due to the burning of fossil fuels.  We must repent now!

But all the while, Mr. Gore was making hundreds of millions from his “work” and many of the green movements/companies that get government funding, have Mr. Gore’s fingerprints on them somewhere.   

But crushingly, Gores followers are starting to realize Mr. Gores feet are made of clay.  He sold his failing "Current" cable-television station for about $500 million, which he personally gets 100 million, to the anti-American Al-Jazeera media company…which is owned by the fossil-fuel-rich royal family of Qatar.

Gore rushed to close the deal before the first of the year to avoid the very capital-gains tax hikes that he has advocated for others less well off.

In one fell swoop Mr. Gore has enhanced a fossil-fuel consortium, attempted to beat tax hikes he has advocated that others should pay and empowered an anti-American/anti-Semitic media conglomerate.  

The blatant hypocrisy & betrayal to the cause has not been lost on his followers who have expressed shock and bewilderment that their titular leader of the “green movement” sold them out for 100 million pieces of silver.

Employees of  Current TV, have been quoted as saying,  according to Fox News:

“He has no credibility. He’s supposed to be the face of clean energy and just sold [the channel] to very big oil, the emir of Qatar! Current never even took big oil advertising—and Al Gore, that bulls---ter sells to the emir?”

The displeasure with Gore among the staff was thick enough to cut with a scimitar.

“We all know now that Al Gore is nothing but a bulls---ter,” said one staffer bluntly. “Al was always lecturing us about green. He kept his word about green all right—as in cold, hard cash!”

All of this from a former vice president who crusades for ending our reliance on fossil fuels and for raising taxes on the wealthy.

Let’s hope this cult story doesn’t end badly for the rest of us.

News headlines blared that 4 people have been found dead and partially eaten in Mexico City’s Cerro de la Estrella, a partially wooded hill top park.

Sources say the victims were killed by packs of feral dogs.  The large park is home to many abandoned dogs  who eke out a living in this impoverished section of Mexico’s capital.

Authorities are warning people to stay out of the park until they get to the bottom of the deaths.

But many people are saying it is hard to believe that the dogs roaming around the park are capable of inflicting the great bodily harm they are seeing on the victims and also say nothing like this has happened before. There have been reports of some minor attacks on humans in the past, but none fatal.

Police are combing through the park capturing any dogs they find to see if any of them are the killers.  But pictures of some of the newly captured dogs hardly fit the description of killer types, but are the more cute and cuddly type including: beagles, maltese, poodles; etc.

 Antemio Maya, president of the Street Dog Protection association in Mexico City, doubts that these dogs could have killed the people found in the park.

'It's not the behavior of street dogs to kill humans,' Maya said. Besides look at the dogs captured so far, do they look like killer type dogs?

But Mexico City prosecutors said in a statement: “Experts have established that due to the gravity of the wounds, at least 10 dogs were involved in each attack.”

The 4 victims were found in different parts of the park and all had died from bleeding to death caused by their wounds.  Prosecutors say evidence shows the victims were not killed elsewhere and dumped in the park.

One of the victims had her arm torn off and all of them had been partially eaten.

But if it is not the parks feral dogs killing these people then what is it?

There is some speculation, that the victims could have been killed by trained attack dogs used by some of the Mexican drug cartels. 

Some breeds like the Canary Island Mastiff  are favorites of gangs.  These breeds can weigh 120 lbs and are trained to be ferocious killers, as evidenced by a woman killed by a pair of them in San Francisco several years ago.  See Kimberly Guilfoyle prosecutes dog owners.

It is also speculated that the victims could have been killed by pit bull fighting dogs who got unleashed and killed the humans.

Throughout the centuries dogs have been trained in warfare and there are many books written on their exploits.  Ancient armies were accompanied by their dogs of war that they would unleash on their enemies causing terror.

During the war of 1812, at the battle of New Orleans, the American army under General Jackson, unleashed their hounds on the British soldiers, who had turned and run. As written about in a famous song.

But dogs have been known to change character when more than a couple of them team up…It seems a wildness comes out in them and they do resort to violence as is evidenced by massive kills of livestock by packs of domestic dogs….Who kill just to kill, not to eat.

But to attack humans and actually kill and eat them, is a rarity among domestic stray dogs in a civilized society.

It will be interesting to see if the Mexican authorities get to the bottom of this.  They say they will round up all of the stray dogs in the area and test their stomach content to see if they have been dining on humans…Stay tuned

The Muslim version of Rosa Parks deserves the Nobel Peace Prize

City buses have been the scene of transformational moments in human history.

In 1955 Montgomery Alabama, a young black woman was told to sit at the back of the bus, the section reserved  for 2^nd class citizens. But this day was different, this day she refused to go to the back “black section” and stayed in her seat up front…..For this impertinence she was jailed.  But as a result of her courage, millions of others refused to sit at the back of the bus and Rosa Parks is synonymous with the American civil rights movement.

On another bus, 3 months ago and continents away, another brave young woman was punished for her refusal to sit at the “educational” back of the bus.  A gunman boarded her school bus, singled her out for execution by cowardly shooting her in the head and then again in the chest.

15 year old Malala Yousafzai was targeted because she was an activist for women’s rights and equal education.  This is a slap in the face to Muslim extremists who view women as 2^nd class citizens, not worthy of an education or other rights accorded to men.

Gravely wounded, she was airlifted to England for medical treatment and sanctuary.   After 3 months  she was just released from the hospital where she has made miraculous progress. According to Doctors she will require future surgery to repair her damaged skull, but they expect her to regain at least 85% of her cognitive ability and perhaps return to activism.

She won worldwide recognition, and has become a symbol for the struggle for women’s rights in Pakistan as well as other countries where women are relegated to 2^nd class status due to religious and cultural beliefs. 

Indicating her growing popularity and inspiration, she was one of the few nominated for Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2012.  Additionally, tens of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for Malala to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Just like the courageous Rosa Parks lifted America out of its blindness and brought it into the light.  The courageous Malala Yousafzai can be the light bearer for her culture and lead it out of the darkness of repression.  For her courage and inspiration she deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

Sperm donor might be on the hook for child support; is that “fair”?

It’s a mixed up, jumbled up, shook up world these days, but especially for William Marotta.

Marotta, a Kansas City man responded to a Craigslist ad 3 years ago placed there by a lesbian couple. The couple was looking for a sperm donor to help them conceive a child.   Marotta, the Good Samaritan, was up for the task.

Marotta and the couple signed an agreement stating his responsibilities for the future child stopped with his donation.  He was not to be involved in the raising of the child, have any financial responsibility, or have any contact with the child…..Pretty much a standard agreement for this type of situation.

But the lesbian couple, broke up and then sought welfare assistance from the state of Kansas.  This set off an investigation by the state on behalf of its taxpayers who have to foot the bill…and the trail lead to Marottas front door.

Evidently the state of Kansas doesn’t think Marottas responsibilities stopped after his donation and have decided to make him financially responsible for the child.

The state of Kansas says since the impregnation procedure wasn’t done under the auspices of a Dr’s supervision, the agreement the couple and Marotta have, is not valid.

Marotta has lawyered up and already claims the state has no proof it is his child, since no DNA  tests have been performed. Besides, it’s not fair since he had a written agreement with the couple.

The state of Kansas is claiming it’s not fair for the citizens of Kansas to pay for other peoples children.

Hillary Clinton popularized the often repeated quote “it takes a village to raise a child.”  Evidently Kansas doesn’t agree with the “village” meme and they want these 3 villagers to pay for their own children.

 Angela Bauer and Jennifer Schreiner, the couple who have now separated, plan to help Marotta fight the state’s decision to force him to pay child support.

These three did create a human life. Is it fair that the state requests they be financially responsible for it and not expect the taxpayers to pick up the tab?  We all have rights, but there are responsibilities as well.

It’s time for the GOP to get a new playbook & use its powerful young bench

 It is apparent the GOP has been outmaneuvered in the message department when they try to convey what they stand for to the general public.

It’s no secret that President Obama and his advisers have tapped in to the popular main stream media and skillfully used it to their advantage when it comes to getting their version of the “truth.”

The GOP has been outplayed in this department for the past 4 years.

Claims from President Obama and his administration go unchallenged in the popular media and eventually become the “truth” because the GOP has lost the ability to challenge them. 

The GOP needs to immediately replace its present leaders who have presided over one failure after another and have allowed their message to be hijacked.

Speaker of the House John Boehner has proved repeatedly he is no match for the negotiating skills of Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  His previous pledges of forcing fiscal sanity on this administration have proven to be hollow…He needs to be replaced with someone who has better negotiating skills.

The House has the power of the purse strings and has never used this power to get concessions out of this administration.  Get someone in there who is not afraid of using this power to extract concessions from this administration.

Minority Leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell has been at the helm for 4 years of concessions, it is time for him to step down and let a fresh face in there.

The Republican Party has many powerful, articulate and younger faces in their stable of talent and should use them to their advantage….NOW. It is not the time to go along to get along & let whoever is next in line to step to the forefront, it is time for bold moves.

But these key changes in leadership should be coupled with a new PR campaign by the Republicans to get their message to the citizens.  The GOP needs a designated spokesman who can relate to the vast majority of the middle class Americans and speak their language....not another perceived country club Republican, or plutocrat.

The GOP should have several of its younger, articulate members at the ready, to stand up and answer President Obama the next time he has a one way conversation with the American public.

Of course, the media will most likely not cooperate in helping to level the playing field in the field of ideas, so the Republicans should be ready to buy millions in prime time ads to speak to the public. They should also aggressively get involved in the new political battlefield of ideas in Twitter/Facebook.  They are woefully behind the curve in the new media.

The GOP could show it’s depth by highlighting Senator Marco Rubio, let him be a main spokesman. He is comfortable in the media and can articulately explain complicated issues in a simple way.  Senator Rubio also has a star quality about him that can be tapped into and he would be welcomed in popular media venues.

The GOP has many other young articulate spokespersons that can be thrust into the media spotlight to counter the unanswered barrage of information coming from the left.  Names like Martinez, Cantor, Cruz, Ayotte, Haley and many others, including Darrell Issa & Rand Paul…The GOP  bench is wide and deep.....use it now
