President Obama’s naive foreign policy unravels as a “tiny country” threatens us with nukes.

Four years ago a newly minted President Obama assured us we had very little to fear in his new world of foreign policy.  There was no longer a Soviet Union that could threaten our very existence and besides, as a Nobel Peace Prize winner he had the moral authority to reset our foreign policy….to make America loved, rather than feared.  Unlike it had been during the Bush administration.

He proclaimed that Iran, Cuba and North Korea were tiny countries and wouldn't be able to resist his charm offensive coupled with a beer summit.

In order to show the utmost self confidence in his ability to change the world, President Obama acquiesced to the Russians and didn’t install planned anti missile defenses in Eastern Europe aimed at incoming missiles from Iran. He also cancelled/delayed planned deployment of anti missile shields on our own soil leaving us wide open and unprotected

But after over 4 years of the Obama foreign policy/charm offensive, the administration is feverishly trying to deploy the very missile shields it cancelled 4 years ago. These shields were designed to thwart incoming nuke missiles from the tiny country of North Korea. 14 anti missile batteries are being rushed into place in Alaska, along with other measures previously rejected by Obama in other parts of the world

Four years of dithering and charm offensive have let Iran and North Korea go forward virtually unchecked in their nuclear ambitions. Now those chickens are starting to come home to roost. See my interview with Israels Danny Danon warning of disastrous results from Obamas lack of leadership in the Mideast.

Last week North Korea cancelled the armistice it had with South Korea and declared their right to launch a preemptive nuclear strike on the US in retaliation for new sanctions imposed on them.

North Korea has already thumbed its nose at Obama by conducting underground nuclear explosions and successfully launched a missile capable of striking the US….All of this in the face of “stern” threats from the paper tiger Obama administration.

Ominously, in the other tiny country of Iran, the acquisition of much faster centrifuges will speed up the time it takes to get them enough enriched uranium for nuclear weapons…again all of this in the face of “stern” threats and trade sanctions from the Obama administration.

Buried in the press a few months back was the report that Iran had suffered an accident at one of their nuclear sites.  The accident killed several of their scientists, but reportedly killed a few North Korean scientists as well.

President Obama: Today even tiny nuclear armed countries can have the ability to ruin our day, not by just lobbing nuclear missiles at us, but by spreading those weapons to terrorists and other rogue, tiny countries around the world. It’s time you take the rose colored glasses off.  In this world it is far better and safer to be feared and respected, rather than trying to be liked.

Joe Biden & the nation lost last nights debate on all counts

Last night at the Vice Presidential debate in Kentucky, the nation got to witness the last vestiges of dignity get stripped away from the office of Vice President.  This administration’s all out quest to remain in power saw truth and dignity sacrificed for that goal.

Joe Biden’s conjured up inner outrage lead to a spectacle on stage never duplicated in past debates of this magnitude.  Smiling bizarrely while the conversation centered on our soldiers being killed in Afghanistan, Biden even laughed out loud ( insanely?) while the conversation shifted to the possibility of a nuclear armed Iran.  Joe was seen by many as a deranged and cranky old man last night.

But one positive aspect for “green energy” emerged. Many folks in the alternative energy business thought Joes expensive teeth could be a new found source to power solar panels, as he flashed them constantly and inappropriately last night.

The only ones who seem to roar with approval are the far left, who were looking for blood after Mitt Romney dismantled President Obama in last weeks debate.  But Romney, unlike Biden, did his work without rudely and thuggishly butting in while the President was talking.

Instead of battling Paul Ryan using ideas and truth, Biden was like Stephen King’s Pennywise the clown armed with a crude club. Biden interrupted Ryan in mid sentence 82 times and even butted into the moderator mid sentence several times for good measure.

Biden was able to get away with many complete and false statements yesterday with the aid of the moderator, who cut off Ryan's responses before he could rebut a Biden falsehood….. Of course  Joes own thuggish behavior made it difficult to complete a thought.

What is left today is a bucket full of fact checks that show Joe had an utter disregard for the truth, ranging from the Libyan embassy scandal to Medicare, to Iran and our relations with Israel.

Today many women were expressing their disappointment in the Vice Presidents demeanor last night.  To them he appeared to be a bully, especially when he pointed his finger at the moderator and lectured her.  Some women said Biden reminded them of ex boyfriends who wouldn’t take no for an answer.  Or more ominously, the type of overbearing man they would fear to work around.

The left was cheered by this spectacle and feel vindicated, however we are quickly losing the ability to have an honest debate in this country, if last night is an example of our present discourse.

At this rate, we will be choosing candidates for their gladiatorial skills, rather than their oratorical skills.

Iran gains power in Latin America as Obama administration looks on; a brave leader speaks

Bolivia's Evo Morales w/Irans Ahmadinejad
While attention has been focused on the murder of our ambassador to Libya and violent anti American demonstrations against our embassies overseas.....Those same anti American tentacles have been quietly grabbing hold in our own back yard.

With little notice in the main stream media, Iran has been cementing it’s relationships with regimes in Venezuela & Bolivia, both countries under the control of strongmen friendly to communism.  Iran is a main funder of terrorism throughout the world, For them to gain a foothold in Latin America, does not bode well for peace in our hemisphere.

Recently I spoke with Bolivian elected representative Senator Carmen Gonzales.  She has had the courage to stand up and speak out about the repression besetting her country and it’s ever closer alliances with Iran.  She has been the object of continual harassment by the government for her vocal opposition; including being buried in lawsuits (18) designed to silence her.

Tell us about Iran's influence in Bolivia?
The influence of the Iranian theocracy in Bolivia is very wide and deep.  Iran has inked many agreements with Bolivia, both known and unknown to the Bolivian people.  I have demanded to know the extent of these agreements, but as of yet there has been no response from the leadership.   Iran is interested in our mining industry, gas and uranium.  Iran is interested in expanding its influence in Latin America, to provoke the United States. It is very advantageous to Iran to have the friendship of the Bolivian regime, with all of its natural resources, including uranium and being strategically placed in the center of the continent.

Sen. Gonzalez
But most people of Bolivia repudiate the Iranian regime: They abuse human rights, they do not respect their women and are dangerous to world peace and stability.
Recently Canada withdrew its embassy in Tehran in a clear sign that the civilized world will not tolerate the authoritarian practices of undemocratic and abusive Iran.

I am also worried as a Bolivian ,what may happen to the Jewish community here.
Recently, the Iranian defense minister was with our ruler, Evo Morales. That same minister is under orders for international prosecution, accused by an Argentine federal judge to be part of the deaths of hundreds of Jewish-Argentine AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina in 1994).

So, it is very dangerous for the Jewish community the fact that Bolivia has relations with Iran.

How do you see Iran’s influence shaping up in Latin America?
Our ruler Evo Morales hates everything that has to do with democracy, modernity and definitely hates the United States and what it represents. He and his regime have been dubbed the Taliban of the Andes and he himself is referred to as the Fidel Castro of the Andes. In 2008 he expelled the U.S. ambassador, Mr Philippe Golberg, in a clear sign that the Bolivian regime hates the U.S.

Since Bolivian leadership has signed agreements with Iran as well as Venezuela, there is clear worry that these countries can serve as bases for terrorist activities against neighboring countries and become a springboard for jihadism.  With Iran racing toward nuclear weapons capability, there is no doubt in many circles, that technology can filter to enemies of the US. The exporting of nuclear weapons technology to Latin America would cause huge political disruption to this region.

What can be done about this:
In Bolivia we do not like communism and citizens realized the mistake they made by giving the vote to Evo Morales in the last elections. Morales's agenda is the same agenda as Che Guevara: Establish a dictatorship the same style as Cuba. Che Guevara tried that here and we killed him for it.  Morales came to power cheating the people of Bolivia, lying that he would “change the system.”

I hope the Morales regime does not change the Constitution. In 2014 we are going to vote against him, and fire him from the Presidency. But only if he doesn’t change the constitution, like his ally Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela. Legally speaking, he cannot run for the Presidency again.  We hope the people of the US see what is happening here and lend us their support.

The US is coming face to face with a decision about what to do with Iran’s race towards nuclear capability. A nuclear capable Iran not only means a threat to our allies in the mideast, it most surely means a threat to our friends and allies in Latin America.

Israel’s Danny Danon says Washington’s lack of leadership is speeding Iran towards the bomb

Deputy speaker of  the Knesset, Danny Danon, is internationally known as a fearless supporter of Israels new brand of nationalism.  As one of Israel’s chief spokesmen, he gets attention when he gives his opinion on matters affecting Israel and the world. His opinions can be at the center of political firestorms.

I spent time with him discussing a wide range of subjects such as: Irans nuclear threat, Israel’s new found energy independence, the Irish “Freedom Flotilla” and other subjects important to Israel and the rest of the world.

This is part one of a three part interview.
--------------------------

Parts 2 & 3 of exclusive Danny Danon interview

Danny Danon says Israels Freedom flotilla was funded by terrorists

Israel will be energy independent, can America follow their example?

---------------------------
To most Americans and the rest of the world, the Middle East always seems to be on the verge of some sort of cataclysmic event.  But the thought of the crazed leadership running Iran getting their hands on nuclear weapons, would bring that scenario to fruition.

Americans are very uncomfortable with the thought of a nuclear armed Iran and we are thousand of miles away.  Israel, just a few hundred miles away, is highly alarmed at that possibility, since Iran’s leaders have repeatedly said their goal is to “wipe Israel off the map.”

The United States along with other countries, for years have put trade sanctions on Iran designed to bring them to the table and take away their nuclear ambitions.  President Obama, fresh off of receiving his Nobel Peace Prize, thought he could push the reset button with Iran and reason with them on the nuclear issue.

I asked deputy speaker Danon, about the announcement of new sanctions against Iran and do they seem to be having an effect on their desire to get nuclear weapons. He said: “We see a lot of talk, a lot of declarations from Washington, but no leadership.  These sanctions are too little, too late.  If anything, the words from Washington have emboldened Iran to accelerate its engine of development for getting bombs.”

Danon compared President Obamas 2009 Cairo speech to present day difficulties in the Middle East: “The Presidents speech was not connected to the reality on the ground.”  “Everything said, is the opposite of what we now have; No stability, more extreme forces in Egypt and other countries as well.”  Danon went on: “ This area is very dynamic and it takes more than a charismatic speech to change reality.”

The can has been kicked down the road about as far as it can go without taking some defining action before Iran becomes nuclear.  What will Israel do in conjunction with its ally the US?  Danon spoke solemnly with perhaps a bit of sadness:  “Israel can only rely on itself for protection.”  We love the United States, but it is a big country and can possibly tolerate the idea of a nuclear armed Iran.  We are small, we cannot afford to make a mistake, the crucial decisions for our survival are up to us.  If Iran got nuclear weapons, it would be very difficult for Israel to survive.”

To me, that drove the stark reality home of the gut wrenching decisions that leaders are now making.   I felt the future of this country; the hopes, dreams and very survival of millions of people, would hinge on critical life and death evaluations being made now in the most secret of planning rooms.

Dannon remarked on the recent visit by Mitt Romney and the previous visit by Sarah Palin.  He had greeted them both and spent time with them while they stayed in Israel. I asked him if he felt a closer kinship with them because their political leanings.  His reply was: “I stand and support anyone who supports Israel, Democrat or Republican, it makes no difference.  We encourage more to come, because sometimes many of us in Israel feel everyone’s against us.”

I reminded him that the great majority of American’s feel a kinship with Israel and want our government to work together with them. We feel Israel is America’s closest ally in the Middle East. Mr. Danon was very grateful for the support Americans give his country.

If a war does erupt over the Iran nuclear issue, it will be due to a lack of strength shown in our foreign policy.  As history has shown repeatedly, peace is attained through strength and respect, not by empty words and empty threats.

Who was behind the “Peace Flotilla” designed to be confrontational with Israel.  Although many members of the flotilla emanated from Ireland, does Danny Danon think Ireland is a bastion of anti Israel sentiment?

We’ll discuss that issue in the next installment.

Read Mr. Danons excellent book:  "Israel, The will to Prevail"
